The library holds a small collection of CDs, Videos and DVDs on various subjects for members to borrow. These items can all be located via the library's online catalogue, where you can place a reservation of the items.
These items are held at the library counter and can be accessed by asking the staff.
The library holds an extensive collection of printed and eBooks available to library members. Some of the material is contained within a reference collection and is not for loan, while reserve collections are only available overnight.
Books can be searched for and reserved from within the library catalogue.
The library subscribes to and makes available, numerous databases covering both clinical and non-clinical materials. A listing of these databases can be found on the library catalogue by following this link.
The Library subscribes to a collection of 2000+ journals in both printed and electronic format. Printed journals are available for viewing within the library, and some limited photocopying is available (within copyright limits), however journals cannot be borrowed.
Most members of the library also have remote access to any electronic journals that the library have subscribed to. To access this collection you will need your library membership barcode. Links to the RMH and RWH A to Z journal portals as well as a method for searching for articles directly can be found on the library homepage.
Newspapers : The Age, The Australian, and the Herald-Sun are received daily (Monday to Friday issues).
Older newspapers are kept on backissue for 1 week, after which they are removed from the library.
Victorian Mental Health Photograph Collection
The photograph collection previously available at Royal Park Psychiatric Hospital Library contains around 3,000 items. These date from the mid 1800s to 2002, with most pictures taken in the 1960s.
They depict special events with key political or mental health figures, or feature promotional shots of everyday life in Victorian mental health institutions. Patients, staff, furnishings, equipment, activities and buildings are shown.
Formats range from negatives, glass and photographic slides, to colour or black and white prints. There are also a small number of site plans and sketches. Sizes vary from 3 cm. to poster.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Access to the Materials is for Non-Commercial use only. The online database does not contain actual images, only descriptions of the items available in the collection.
